NYU Rehabilitation & Wellness Center

The NYU Rehabilitation & Wellness Center unites three programs that help patients regain motion and self-esteem.

In order to help NYU Langone Health bring together three distinct centers dedicated to the research, education, and treatment of injuries and disorders, SYA created a calm but energizing environment to inspire patients as they regain their sense of motion.

Despite being located across three floors in the podium of a residential tower, this Article 28 facility will provide an excellent user experience. The key planning move was creating a single patient treatment floor, limiting Article 28 compliance to that area and allowing several program spaces to be shared. Waiting areas and gyms are located along the perimeter of the second floor to take advantage of natural light. Raised ceilings in each gym helps make these spaces feel special, providing an uplifting environment for patients to improve their mobility and self-esteem.

A white and grey aesthetic with warm wood accents unites the facility, while each center has their own unique color palette to express their individual identities. Special design attention is given to people in wheelchairs, including reception desks where materials were selected to have great durability while still providing a high-end feel.
