Sven Kalim has extensive international experience in new construction and renovation projects for higher education, K-12 school, public and residential clients. Since joining SYA, Mr. Kalim has been responsible for numerous institutional projects including CUNY Kingsborough Community College Performing Arts Center, CUNY Medgar Evers College Carroll Building, and Columbia University School of Engineering Headquarters.
Prior to SYA, Mr. Kalim worked in Haiti for Architecture for Humanity and was responsible for the design of numerous schools, housing, and master planning for new post-disaster temporary settlements. Prior to that, Mr. Kalim worked in Slovenia where he was involved with institutional projects as well as urban master plans. He has received numerous awards including First Prize in the Embassy Park Design Competition and Third Prize for an African-American Art and Music Museum in New York City.
Mr. Kalim received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University. He is fluent in English, German, and Haitian Creole, and creates black-and-white analog photography.
